About the JEP

The Joint Environmental Programme (JEP) supports a programme of research into the environmental impacts of electricity generation funded by seven of the leading producers in the UK.

The objective of the JEP work programme is to understand and increase knowledge of the environmental science and impacts associated with the production of electricity from combustion plant, which have an important role in ensuring security of supply in the electricity system, complementary to the growth of renewables.

Our sector continues to transition towards net zero in support of the Government’s ambition to decarbonise the power sector by 2035.   This transition means that the JEP Programme is increasingly focussed on the environmental impacts of decarbonisation technologies and to consider the impacts of plant in the context of a changing mix of technologies and a changing role in terms of load factors and intermittent operation.
